Purple Ghost Candy is a cannabis strain by Seedsman. I have to admit we initially grew it to laugh about the name while we smoked it. However, the high yields, sweet pungent smell, and fantastic smoke make me think that the fun name is just icing on the cake. Overall, we loved this strain and highly recommend it! It’s one of the best strains we grew in 2025.
I just grew another Purple Ghost Candy, check out the grow journal!
Chunky buds with a sweet mid-2000s “purple” smell.
Our results with Purple Ghost Candy:
- Big plants, huge yields – Very “Sativa” cannabis plant structure that grows really big with huge yields.
- Purple leaves – Leaves were green at first but turned a beautiful purple the last few weeks before harvest.
- Ultra-dense buds – Buds grew as tight nuggets. These cannabis buds were much more dense than average (check out the pics!)
- Potent bud effects – Plenty of “up” feeling meds that are extremely potent, especially after drying and curing. THC tested above 26%.
- Sweet, spicy smell – A heavy “sweet and sour” hashy type aroma, with a touch of incense. Reminds me of a kush smell, not “skunky”.

Bud Quality
Chunky, dense nugs galore. Our Purple Ghost Candy grew with purple tinges all over the buds. These buds grew dense, beautiful, and POTENT. Not for the faint of heart or casual smokers!
Are buds purple? The leaves were purple, and the buds had tinges of purple. On two plants, the buds were mostly green after being trimmed. On one plant they were purple even on the buds. All from the same seed pack.

That plant gifted us with buds as hard as hammers.
Example 2 – Grown in Soil under the HLG 350R LED grow light
Dense, fat buds. About 1/3 purple after trimming.
Example 3 – Grown in Coco
Note: This strain may be too potent for some cannabis enthusiasts. Check out our article on how to grow relaxing weed if you want a more gentle ride after harvest.

These marijuana plants get BIG if you’re not careful. Make sure to initiate flowering when plants are half the final desired size. They grow faster than average in the cannabis vegetative stage, so in the future, I would plan for less time in the vegetative stage to ensure they don’t get oversized in the flowering stage.
This cannabis strain delivered huge yields and the buds grew as hard nuggets. The nuggety nature of the buds (without airy spaces) leaves you less likely to run into problems with bud rot as other high-yield strains that grow “colas” or “baseball bat” buds. One of the reasons I recommend this strain is the outstanding bud quality even in suboptimal conditions. You can make some mistakes with this strain and still get a breathtaking harvest.

Plant Training
- Manifolding – We got each of the plants to grow tons of buds by using the “manifolding” pruning technique. At its core, the idea of manifolding is to cut off the tops of young cannabis plants and leave just two branches emerging from the same part of the main stem (the “manifold”). When done on young plants, the result is tons of big long buds per plant in the flowering stage. This can greatly increase your overall yields and bud quality/density vs letting plants grow naturally. Plus it’s super fun to make manifolds! Here are step-by-step instructions if you want to give it a try on your next grow.
I know this article is a strain review for Purple Ghost Candy, but I wanted to share a little bit about the lights I used for this grow. LED grow lights are known for producing high-quality, beautiful, and potent weed, but sometimes the bud size isn’t quite up to par compared to the old-fashioned “big bulb” grow lights like HPS, even when you use techniques like manifolding.
Not the case with the HLG 350 LED grow light. If anything, I think this light may be too powerful for many home growers. We had two of them in a 4×4 grow tent (normally 700W is a good amount of light in a 4×4 grow tent), but we soon realized we had to turn them both down to 50% power to keep them from cooking the plants.
This grow was my first time using HLG 350 LEDs, and I ended up keeping them at 50% power.
Despite, that, all the buds grew long and rock hard.
Frankly, next time I plan to use a single HLG 350 by itself in the 4×4 grow tent.

These plants produced the longest colas I’ve seen with LEDs so far. Here were those cannabis plants drying after harvest.

A few last thoughts about the Purple Ghost Candy strain…
Purple Ghost Candy Strain May to Be More Affected by Curing
Over the years, we’ve noticed that some cannabis strains seem to be more affected by the post-harvest curing process than others.
In this tent, we grew both Full Moon and Purple Ghost Candy. Both strains felt to be at about similar potency after the initial 2-week cure.

But how was the bud quality after curing for longer?
We waited a full 6 months. Then last week, we cracked open a jar from both strains and conducted some smoke tests (my favorite kind of testing).
The Full Moon was an excellent smoke, smelling spicy and unique, and effects were just as potent as before. A beautiful curing job.
However, the Purple Ghost Candy was unbelievably potent after curing this long. In fact, after smoking some, we were not able to get anything done for the rest of the day lol It was a wonderful time, but I was pretty surprised at the extent of the effects. And this is coming from seasoned smokers!
Learn how to maximize THC when growing weed!
The Purple Ghost Candy buds were lovely immediately after harvest. But after curing 6 months, the buds are out-of-this-world potent.
Here were the Purple Ghost Candy buds after curing for only 2 weeks. You’ll notice they still have a lot of green.
Here is the same weed after curing for 6 months in a jar with a 58% Humidity Pack. Most of the green was gone by this point. In that time, effects went from regular “strong” to “mind-bendingly psychedelic”.
The 6-month cured Purple Ghost Candy seems to be the strongest weed I’ve smoked yet, even compared to some strains that initially tested at higher THC. Obviously there is something about the entourage effect after curing that makes Purple Ghost Candy so unbelievably strong…

About the Breeder
Seedsman runs a full seed bank full of strains from many different breeders, but I’ve consistently found their in-house strains are just all around easy to grow with great germination rates and a lower chance of problems. I also like that all of their strains tend to be “stabilized” which means if you grow multiple seeds of the same strain, they typically grow the same way as each other.
