How do I use Fox Farm Nutrient Trio for Soil for growing cannabis?

Fox Farms Nutrient Trio for Soil

So I have the Fox Farms growing nutrient trio for soil-based plants.

I was wondering how much to feed to my plants which have been in the vegetative stage for about a week now. My plants are in small plant pots for individual plants so I’m not sure how much to use and how.

Do I mix all three nutrients in one container or do I add one at a time?

Answer

In soil, you can usually wait for a few weeks before you need to start feeding nutrients, as high quality soil usually has enough nutrients to get your plants started. If you were growing hydroponically, you’d want to start feeding nutrients almost right away.

If you started with quality soil (not dirt you found outside), you probably won’t need to start adding nutrients until your plants are about a month old. Or you can start right away if the soil was low-quality. When you do start with nutrients, here are some guidelines in soil.

Follow the feeding instructions at half strength to start, and only raise the dose if plants look like they need more nutrients.

Here’s a copy of the official feeding chart in case you didn’t get one when you purchased the nutrients.

Like I said, follow the chart they provide except add the nutrients at half strength to start. This nutrient line is very strong, and too much at once will burn your cannabis plants.

Only raise the strength if your plant is a heavy feeder.

For example, if you notice a lot of lower leaves are turning yellow and falling off (before you reach the last couple of weeks before harvest when that’s normal), then it’s a sign that your plant wants more nutrients. At that point, you may consider raising the dose.

Raise nutrient levels if your plant appears pale or lime green. Keep them the same if plants are a healthy green.

Too much nutrients! Back off a bit if you see nutrient burn.

Still, treat the official guidelines as a MAX level of nutrients in most cases. Unless you have a very high-performing setup with strong grow lights and heavy feeding strains, it’s is rare that you ever need to go above the amounts listed in the feeding schedule. It’s easy to accidentally burn your plants!

Important Tip 1: Never mix the nutrients together.

Always add nutrients directly to your water.

Important Tip 2: Check the water pH if you see nutrient deficiencies.

Remember to check and adjust your water pH if you start seeing nutrient deficiencies from pH lockout.

Bonus: Fox Farm Coco / Hydro Feeding Chart

This if for anyone who came to this page but is growing a plant in coco or hydroponics instead of soil.

Fox Farm offers a trio for non-soil growers. Two of the bottles are the same as the soil trio, but the bottle of “Grow Big” is different in their hydroponic version of the Fox Farm trio. If you look close, it says “hydroponic plant food” on the label under “Grow Big”. This version is better suited to growing cannabis in coco coir or hydroponics, as it includes slightly different nutrient ratios, as well as supplements with extra micronutrients that would normally be found in the soil but aren’t available in coco or hydro.
