When growing cannabis, mixing up nutrients can take up a lot of time if you’re using multiple bottles or supplements at a time. A huge time saver for growers is to use an all-in-one nutrient system that gives everything to your plants in one bottle.

Dyna-Gro Grow & Bloom has one bottle for the vegetative stage, and one bottle for the flowering stage.

I’ve had excellent results using Dyna-Gro Grow & Bloom as a cannabis nutrient time saver. You only use one bottle at a time, and it can be used in soil, coco, or hydroponic setups. Cheap and easy yet great yields and the resulting buds are top tier. Plus, Dyna-Gro works for cannabis plants in any grow medium, including soil, coco, or hydro.

Example of Dyna-Gro Plants in Picture: Strains are Pacific Punch (limited edition strain related to Purple Punch), Amnesia Lemon Pie, and Zweet Inzanity. I grew these plants in coco with just Dyna-Gro nutrients under a Mars Hydro TSL2000 LED using 5-gallon fabric pots.

Directions

Here are complete directions for using Dyna-Gro Grow & Bloom with cannabis plants:

Use Dyna-Gro “Grow” bottle in the vegetative stage – 1 tsp/gallon

  • 1/2 tsp per gallon for first 2 weeks after germination
  • 1 tsp per gallon for rest of vegetative stage

Drop back down to 1/2 tsp per gallon if you see dark green leaves or nutrient burn (brown/burnt leaf tips).

Continue using “Grow” for first 2-3 weeks of the flowering stage (“transition to flowering” stage)

  • Continue using “Grow” at 1 tsp/gallon during the transition into the flowering stage

This stage is known as the flowering stretch because cannabis plants about double in size during this time (on average). Growing all those new leaves and branches requires a lot of Nitrogen, which is plentiful in Dyna-Gro “Grow”.

Check out how much these plants grew in the first 3 weeks after we initiated a 12-12 light schedule. Each new leaf needs lots of Nitrogen, which comes in “Grow”.

Note: The amount of “stretch” depends on the cannabis strain, as “tall” strains tend to stretch more than “short” strains. The above image helps you visualize the difference between strains during this transition.

Use Dyna-Gro “Bloom” bottle in the flowering stage – 1 tsp/gallon

  • Stop using “Grow” and Switch to “Bloom” bottle after budlets form (baby buds – picture below)
  • At this point, a cannabis plant has mostly stopped growing vegetatively and switches gears to focus on buds.
  • 1 tsp per gallon of “Bloom” for rest of flowering stage.

Switch to 1 tsp/gallon of Dyna-Gro “Bloom” when buds look like this (usually 2-3 weeks after cannabis starts flowering).

As harvest approaches…

  • Soil – stop giving nutrients and only give plain water starting 1 week before harvest.
  • Coco – switch to 1/2 tsp per gallon starting 1 week before harvest, then give plain water for the last watering.
  • Hydro – give 1/2 tsp per gallon last week before harvest, then change reservoir to plain water for 1-2 days right before harvest.

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some extra tips to help you if you need to adjust the nutrient strength when using Dyna-Gro to grow cannabis plants, or if you’re dealing with nutrient deficiencies. These principles are true for Dyna-Gro, but also for any other quality cannabis nutrients.

When should I raise nutrient strength?

You know a plant needs more nutrients if it’s getting pale or lime green all over, especially if lower leaves are turning yellow and falling off on their own.

  • Raise the amount to 1 1/4 tsp per gallon or even 1 1/2 tsp per gallon for plants that are heavy feeders, though chances are it won’t need this high level of nutrients for long before you start seeing nutrient burn or dark leaves.

You know a plant needs more nutrients if it's getting pale or lime green all over, especially if lower leaves are turning yellow and falling off on their own.

When should I lower nutrient strength?

If you see dark green leaves or nutrient burn (brown leaf tips) it means the plant is getting too high levels of nutrients.

  • Drop to 1/2 tsp per gallon for a week or two then go back up to 1 tsp/gallon

If you see nutrient burn like this on cannabis leaves, it means you should lower your nutrients overall.

If you see nutrient burn like this on cannabis leaves, it means you should lower your nutrients overall.

Remember, plants are using nutrients for plant processes. The faster your plants or buds are growing, the more nutrients they tend to need. Slow growing plants and plants with buds that stay small tend to need less nutrients.

What do I do if I see nutrient deficiencies?

If you see nutrient deficiencies on your cannabis plants with using Dyna-Gro as directed on this page, there are a few common reasons.

  1. (Most Common) Root pH is too high or low – The most common reason to see nutrient deficiencies in cannabis plants with Dyna-Gro is the pH of your water is too high or too low. Luckily this is straightforward to fix. Learn which nutrient deficiencies are caused by pH (picture guide).
  2. (Common) Overwatering – Sometimes cannabis plants get nutrient deficiencies in response to being overwatered, especially younger plants. Learn which symptoms are caused by overwatering.
  3. (Common) Poor environment – If there is a bad environment (for example it’s hot, humid, no breeze, or the grow light is too close), your plants may get symptoms that look like nutrient deficiencies. Learn how to create the perfect cannabis grow environment.
  4. (Rare) Poor storage – If the cap was left off for a significant period of time, if the nutrients got frozen at some point, or other usual issues, nutrients can “go bad”. If your Dyna-Gro nutrients look cloudy, smell funny, or have crystals in them, it’s a sign they weren’t stored properly or are too old. In this case, toss the nutrients and get new ones.

Most cannabis nutrient deficiencies are caused by the water pH being too high or low, not lack of nutrients.
