How to Make “Firecrackers” in 1 Hour (World’s Easiest Cannabis Edible Recipe)

by Nebula Haze

Want to get all the power of strong cannabis edibles with almost none of the work? Even if you only have a tiny amount of weed, cannabis “firecrackers” will put you on a rainbow.

What are Firecracker edibles?

“Firecrackers” is a common name for a marijuana edible that needs weed, crackers (triscuit, graham cracker, saltine, etc) and a fatty spread (peanut butter is most common, but any spread with fat works) mixed with weed. The ingredients are arranged like a sandwich with the crackers on the outside and the spread/weed in the middle.

Firecracker edibles are awesome because…

  • Crackers and peanut butter are easy to get if you already have weed
  • Takes a small amount of weed compared to other edibles
  • Easy to eat and mild-flavored compared to some other edibles
  • POTENT but you must follow the directions to ensure the firecrackers don’t come out weak

Quick Overview: How to Make Awesome Marijuana Firecracker Edibles

  1. Bake the Weed (“decarb” the weed in an oven to make it potent for edibles) at 250°F for 20-30 minutes – Bake until weed looks slightly toasted (pictures below). This is the most important step so don’t skip it. Weed must be “treated” before any edible recipe (not just cannabis firecrackers) or the edibles won’t be potent. Full instructions below. You add the right amount of heat over the right amount of time to “decarboxylate” or “decarb” the THC in the weed. Learn about decarbing weed. Essentially, this “activates” the THC before it gets to your stomach. Otherwise, it just passes through your system without giving you the weed effects. Normally when smoking, the act of burning decarbs the THC, but your stomach won’t do it. Since you’re going to eat this, you have to do this step before making your edible. In fact, if you decarb your weed, you can actually just eat it straight at that point and it will work.
  2. Assemble Firecracker – Put the decarbed weed and peanut butter between two crackers and wrap with aluminum foil.
  3. Bake the Firecrackers – The first time you baked was to make the weed potent. This time you’re baking the peanut butter and decarbed weed for two reasons: it thickens the spread so you can eat it without peanut butter getting everywhere, and fat draws out the decarbed THC from weed and absorbs it. The oil also helps your body absorb the weed better. At the end, you have a well-packaged, stays-together, easy-to-eat little cracker sandwich that will knock your socks off.

The whole process should take about 1 hour from beginning to end and then it’s eating time! Now lets go to the full recipe with step-by-step instructions…

All you need to make cannabis firecracker edibles is weed, peanut butter, crackers, and aluminum foil. 1 hour until takeoff!

Complete Recipe: Firecracker Edibles

What You Need

  • 0.5 g weed per person (this is a starting amount, use up to 1.5 grams for irresponsibly strong Firecrackers)
  • Peanut butter or other fatty spread – Any nut butter will work. If possible get the “Natural” kind which looks oily, but regular peanut butter works, too.
  • Crackers – Any crackers work, but graham crackers probably taste the best. I usually have Triscuits or Ritz crackers on hand so that’s what I use.
  • Aluminum foil – To wrap your firecrackers during baking

Directions

1.) Decarb the weed

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F
  2. Line baking sheet with foil or parchment paper if you have it to protect the pan (no wax paper)
  3. Break up or grind cannabis and place on the baking sheet
  4. Bake cannabis for 20-30 minutes (start checking every few minutes after 10 minutes)
  5. The cannabis is ready when the color changes to a brownish orange color. The amount of time depends on the moisture of the starting marijuana, your oven, and how old the weed is (fresh green weed takes longer than older browner weed)
  6. Take out the weed

Note: If you are only doing a little weed, or if the weed is already dry and crumbly, make sure to start checking after 10 minutes. Watch closely. You want to take the weed out of the oven when it looks orange/brown like the picture example, but before it looks burnt.

…and this is the same ounce of weed after being decarbed on a baking sheet at 250°F for 30 minutes. It should have this brown/orange color after decarb.

Note 2: This gets SMELLY. If you have glass mason jars (like the kind people use to store weed) you can cook the weed inside the jar so it doesn’t stink up the house. You just need to be very careful when handling hot glass as it can burn you and hot glass is brittle and easy to shatter.

Here’s a reference for those who are decarbing in a jar to help contain the smell. The left jar below is untreated weed and the right shows weed that has been decarbed in a mason jar at 250°F for 30 minutes

2.) Assemble the Firecrackers

  1. (optional) Grind the decarbed cannabis to a powder (not necessary but will make firecrackers easier to eat because there won’t be crunchy weed bits).
  2. Measure out 2 teaspoons worth of peanut butter per firecracker.
  3. Add 0.5 g of decarbed weed, per serving, into peanut butter (if you’re adding more weed to each Firecracker, you may need more peanut butter to cut the taste).
  4. Mix weed and peanut butter mixture together thoroughly.
  5. Put peanut butter mixture on a cracker and put another cracker on top, like a sandwich.
  6. Wrap with aluminum foil to keep all the peanut butter inside during cooking.

Put decarbed weed into peanut butter and mix together thoroughly.

Assemble the firecrackers like a sandwich.

Since you properly decarbed the weed, you could actually eat the firecrackers like this and they will work. However, they’re messy and sloppy. A little extra cooking firms them up. It also seems to make the firecrackers feel more potent because the oil in the peanut butter helps your body absorb the weed as fast as possible.

3.) Bake the Firecrackers

  1. Put assembled firecrackers on baking pan.
  2. Put back in the oven  at 250°F (same temperature) for about 10 minutes.
  3. Put in the fridge for 10 minutes and allow to cool before eating.

When they come out they should look something like this.

Why this is the best firecracker recipe, and why some recipes are different

Whenever making any cannabis edibles, here are the main things you need to remember.

  • THC is “inactive” in weed when you eat it raw. It must get heated (“decarbed“) before putting it in your mouth or the effects will be weak or non-existent. The most common reason edibles come out weak is the THC was not decarbed properly first.
  • Once weed is decarbed, you can eat it straight and it will work (some people even grind weed up and put it in caps). But typically people want something easier to eat than ground baked weed. Also, combining decarbed weed with an oil/fat helps your body absorb it faster.
  • Some people make firecrackers where you cook the weed less time on the “decarb” side, and cook more after the firecrackers are assembled. For example, in writing this article I noticed that the High Times recipe does that. This works by finishing the decarbing after the weed is in the firecrackers, and can get the job done, but I’ve found the above recipe from this page is more consistent. The above recipe gets the weed so you can eat it already, then put in the firecrackers so it tastes better and the peanut butter helps your body absorb it.
