These fake “magical” cannabis seeds are selling right now on legitimate online platforms… and people are actually buying them. (Learn where to safely get seeds and which cannabis strain breeders can actually be trusted.)

Today, learn about crazy seed scams (from $75,000 seeds to immortal plants!)

Scam cannabis seeds sabotage your marijuana garden!

Recently, I came across this hilarious post about overpriced seeds on our cannabis growing forum, and had to share screenshots of some of these crazy seed scams.

Title: Overpriced seeds

“Share your finds. This one takes the cake.” ~Going2fast started the thread with this mind-boggling example of scam cannabis seeds for sale online.

Euphoria Continuum Bud – Scam Listing Says…

  • Price: Only $5000 today, on sale for half off! (note from Nebula Haze: the average cost of real cannabis seeds is about $10/seed)
  • Statistics: 53.38% THC (note: modern strains are typically between 20-30% THC)
  • Effects: Last up to 20 hours (note: cannabis effects usually subside within a few hours)

Too good to be true? YES! 100% scam.

Euphoria Continuum Bud – 100% Scam!

Gingerbeard remarks, “Dab, you fools! Dab!” Haha, it’s a funny comment yet I have to agree that if you’re looking for 54% THC, you need to be looking at using concentrates like dabs.

Oh wait, apparently 54% THC isn’t enough of a lie for some scam cannabis seed sources.

Rwise took the game and kicked it up a notch with “Never Dies Cannabis Plant”.

Never Dies Cannabis Plant – Scam Listing States:

  • Price: Just $75,000 for 10 seeds ($7,500 per seed?!?!)
  • Statistics: 87.62% THC (apparently buds are essentially just THC crystals)
  • Plant NEVER dies (the first known case of true immortality)

Pass on to your grandkids? My favorite line in this scam description is this cannabis plant will “outlive you even if your just 18 years old today.” 🤣

Multiverse God Bud – Scam Listing Says…

  • Price: On sale for only $600…per seed! (Must buy 10 at a time)
  • From the Multiverse: They claim this strain arrived from outer space, frozen on a meteor that was sent by a parallel version of the breeder thousands of years in the future.
  • From the Future: It’s notable that despite it being from the future year of 4023, this strain actually has less THC (66%) than the “Never Dies” strain above it (87%). Hmmm, I guess the “Never Dies” cannabis plant didn’t actually make it to the future.

Don’t worry, they’re sending 24 seeds back into space in case an Asteroid destroys Earth.

The origin story

Note: I am not linking to any of these seed listings because I don’t want to accidentally send them extra traffic. But for the curious, check out the original forum post to see the live listings for yourself.

I think No3odiesShad0w summed it up best: “🤣🤣🤣🤣Gucci seeds. Ppl that buy these seeds def think they’re magical beans, with super powers to grow great bud all by themselves, because you threw thousands of dollars at it.”

5 Red Flags of Cannabis Seed Scams

Here are 5 common red flags that a particular listing for online cannabis seeds may be a scam:

  1. Unknown breeder. Stick to a proven, trustworthy seed breeder where you can easily find lots of examples of their seeds being grown online. Even if someone is selling real cannabis seeds, you don’t know what to expect (especially as far as growth and bud quality) if they haven’t been tested and documented by other home growers.
  2. Seeds for sale by private message – Someone messaged you about the seeds on social media, or you see someone selling seeds in the comments, but you don’t know for sure who they are. Avoid these types of deals. From speaking with our readers, direct message sales may be the most common source of growers actually getting scammed for seeds. There are so many better sources of seeds that give you more control and selection without the chance of being scammed.
  3. Seller only accepts cash or cashier’s check – Back in the day (like the 80s, 90s, and 2000s), it was common to pay for seeds by mail via these methods, and there really weren’t many alternatives. However, these days, most seed sellers accept regular payment including credit cards. It is a huge red flag if they won’t accept any regular forms of payment. Credit cards are safe to use to buy seeds online, as are modern online payment methods from a proven seed vendor. Never send cash in an envelope.
  4. Unbelievable claims – Like the examples above, if the claims are out of this world (like “these seeds are from outer space”) or have impossible THC percentages (like “50% THC”), then you can be certain the seller is lying. Cannabis plants take 2-5 months to grow and then the plants are harvested. Max THC for real cannabis buds sits somewhere around 30-35% of total dry weight. In reality, 18-28% THC by weight is most common for modern cannabis strains. Higher percentages require concentrates. Buds can appear green, purple, pink, red, or yellow, but are never blue.
  5. Extreme pricing – Whether too cheap, or too expensive, be wary. Cannabis seeds typically cost about $10/seed, with cheaper seeds typically being some kind of limited deal. I’ve seen legitimate seeds of impressive lineage go for as much as $20/seed, but rarely do cannabis seed prices from legitimate sources to climb much higher.

In summary, follow the evidence, learn from other growers, and use a healthy dose of skepticism before making your next seed purchase.

But after all that craziness, what do normal cannabis seeds actually look like?
